Relaxed facial muscles can relax wrinkles

Neuromodulators like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin can relax facial muscles, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
FAQ

What is a neuromodulator?
-Neuromodulators are prescription medicine derived from a toxin produced by botulinum bacteria (This is where the brand name 'Bo - Tox' originates) they temporarily weaken muscles to reduce or prevent contractions. Neuromodulators are available from several pharmaceutical companies and go by different names including Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Nuceiva.

How do they reduce wrinkles?
-You make a face by contracting any of the 43 facial muscles that control our expression. Some muscle groups cause areas of skin to pull together which creates a wrinkle. Injecting a neuromodulator into specific facial muscles weakens their pull and reduces wrinkling of the overlying skin.

Do they do it all?
-It depends on what you are trying to achieve. Skin tone and fullness all contribute to the appearance of wrinkles. Neuromoduators can reduce their appearance and can be used to prevent the formation of permanent lines. If you have permanent wrinkles or reduced fullness of the skin you may need alternate treatments.

Is it safe?
-Neuromodulators have been used both medically and cosmetically for many years. They should only be injected by a licensed medical professional with specific training in neuromodulator injections. All products used are Health Canada approved.

Does it hurt?

-We use the finest needles for the injections so pain is minimal. We have some distraction techniques if you are anxious about needles.

How long is an appointment?

-Your initial consultation takes 10 minutes. After that the treatment can be done in 15-20 minutes.

How long does it last?
-It typically takes 2-3 weeks for full effect. After that the treatment lasts 3 to 4 months however individual results may vary. Some patients may respond less to treatments, especially if they have been receiving injections for several years. We offer three different formulations if one proves to be less effective.

Are there side effects?
-The most common side effects are dry skin, redness, or swelling at the injection site. Occasionally patients experience headache if they have had their forehead treated.
-Some people respond differently to treatment and may experience a droopy eyelid or eyebrow, or a "Spock eye" where the end of one eyebrow is raised. These side effects typically resolve in 3-6 weeks but can persist longer.
-Rare but more significant side effects may include infection at the injection site, vision problems, difficulty swallowing or breathing, and heart rhythm problems. Most of these are due to underlying health conditions and we take a full medical history to ensure you are not at risk for these outcomes.

3. Discontinue Retinols two days before and after treatment.

4. Reschedule your appointment if you have a rash, cold sore, skin breakouts or active infection to the treatment area.
